Abstract

The study investigated health educators’ perception of the influence of gamification on students’ engagement in tertiary institutions in Anambra State. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The population of the study comprised 189 health educators in tertiary institutions in Anambra State. The instrument for data collection was a validated structured questionnaire. The application of Cronbach Alpha reliability method on the instrument yielded co-efficient values of 0.89 and 0.86 for cluster 1 and 2 respectively with an overall reliability coefficient of 0.88. Mean and t-test were used to analyze data for the study. The finding of the study revealed the health educators opined that gamification improves students’ behavioural engagement in tertiary institutions in Anambra State to a high extent. Finding of the study also revealed that health educators opined that gamification improves students’ cognitive engagement in tertiary institutions in Anambra State to a high extent. Furthermore, health educators significantly differed in their opinion based on gamification experience. Based on these findings, the researchers recommended among others that administrators of health education programmes in tertiary institutions should organize training programmes aimed at improving health educators’ knowledge of gamification and its application in teaching of health education.
